*APPLICATION CHECKLIST*
(This should not substitute the Reading Day Packet)
PAY CAREFUL ATTENTION TO DEADLINES; THEY ARE CRITICALLY IMPORTANT TO YOUR SUCCESS. OUR PROGRAM HAS DEADLINES IN PLACE TO ENSURE A FAIR AND EQUITABLE OPPORTUNITY FOR EACH STUDENT WHO IS COMMITTED TO SUCCEEDING IN OBTAINING HIS OR HER GOALS.
2009 Applicants
By now you should have completed your Application for Sponsorship
(April 1st, 2007) and be studying for the appropriate admission test. Juniors,
mark your calendars now with the following:
- December 15th, 2007
Complete your Intent to Apply, Release of Information and Requests for Evaluations.
Copies are available
in our office as well.
- Register for the MCATs or respective admissions test
The earliest MCAT is offered in January 2008 and the latest is in September 2008. We suggest taking your exam when you feel fully prepared to do so.
- March 1st, 2008: Important deadline for all applicants:
- Update Application for Sponsorship (A4S)
- Update Personal Statement
- Individual Letters of Recommendations must be
received by HPAP from evaluators.
- Begin scheduling Letter Interviews w/Director (no later than May 1st, 2008) - Once our office has received the above required information.
- April 30th, 2008
Junior/those applying MUST ATTEND the Reading Day Meeting on April 30th. You will receive an individualized packet at this time to assist in the application process and requirements from HPAP. There is a checklist in this packet that will walk you through the requirements. NO packets will be available before 4/30/08.
- June - August 2008
Submit your application to AMCAS, AACOMAS,
or ADSAS early! Submit it well before
returning to SU for the fall semester. The AMCAS and AACOMAS
applications will be available in May and you can submit as early at June 1st, 2008. VMCAS is available
around July 15.
- PRINT VERIFIED APPLICATION FOR HPAP FILE ASAP!!!!
As soon as you receive notice, usually by e-mail, that
your application has been verified/certified, go
on-line and print a copy of the application at that
time and submit a copy of it with your Schools List
to HPAP (see Reading Day Packet for precise instructions).
Sponsorship/Credential letters will not be sent without the verified/certified
application and the Schools list. This is a 1st come, 1st serve process.
2010 Applicants
You should plan to complete your Application for Sponsorship (A4S) by April 1st and be studying for the appropriate admission test. Sophomores mark your calendars now with the following:
- Attend the Spring 2008 meeting for students planning to apply for admission to professional schools in 2010.
- April 1st, 2008
Have Application for Sponsorship (A4S), including personal statement, completed as much as possible. Then meet with a staff member to set up your official folder.
- December 15th, 2008
Complete your Intent to Apply, Release of Information and Request for Evaluations. Copies are available
in our office as well.
- Think about when you plan to take your admission test
Think Spring or early Summer 2009! There will be mock/practice MCAT's offered each semester through Kaplan as well as HPAP (in the spring).
- March 1st, 2009 - Important deadline for all applicants.
- Update Application for Sponsorship (A4S)
- Update Personal Statement (Look for PS workshops)
- Individual Letters of Recommendations must be received by HPAP from evaluators.
- Begin scheduling Letter Interviews w/Director (no later than May 1st, 2009) - Once our office has received the above required information.
- April 29th, 2009

Important Notes:
HPAC meets and writes letters over the late spring/ early summer. Requests
made after the March 1st deadline may not be honored and sponsorship/credential
letters will not be written for students whose files are incomplete.
A credentials letter-packet can be sent for some students
who do not qualify or who miss the deadline.
* If you believe that you have a valid reason for not being able to meet, or for having missed, a deadline, you should discuss your specific circumstances with an HPAP advisor as soon as possible.
A Complete File includes:
- Notice of Intent to Apply and Release of Information Form
- Completed and updated Application for Sponsorship (A4S)
- Completed and updated Personal Statement (PS)
- A minimum of three Letters of Recommendation (we suggest two
from science faculty)
- Copy of verified/certified application to professional
school along with your,
- Completed Schools List
